The beginning of a fitness journey is the best part, as you feel motivated and ready to give it your all. You have accomplished the first step, and you should feel proud of yourself. Let’s dive into the ultimate fitness tips for beginners:

#1 Identify your reason for starting your fitness journey

Identifying your “why” or “how” will help you to set clear realistic goals. This will take time as you truly need to write down why, what, and how you are going to achieve your fitness goals.  Why do you have the desire to change your body? In what way will you benefit or grow from this experience? How are you going to incorporate it into your everyday life? Once you have set your reasons, your motivation will not be fleeting.

#2 Start with 30-minute workouts.

Stick to 30-minute workouts three times a week. This method will ensure that you gradually increase your workout intensity and not overtrain. Over-committing and exercising too much will negatively influence your workout program in the long run. This will lead to demotivation and for you to give up more easily.

#3 Always strive for consistency above intensity

Working out in a shorter time frame, multiple times a week is more beneficial than doing long workouts only once or twice a week as it is not sustainable. The key to a successful workout takes time and consistency, so don’t be too hard on yourself and take it one day at a time.

#4 Choose workouts you enjoy

Choosing workouts, you enjoy will help you to stay motivated. Focus on the small improvements day by day. Consistency can only be found if we enjoy the journey! You will feel refreshed and happy after your workout.

#5 Invest in gym gear.

Having the right pair of gym shoes and activewear will make the workouts more comfortable and enjoyable! We can often motivate ourselves by buying new pairs of active clothes and sets. Investing in good-quality shoes will help to protect and provide support to your joints and ligaments.

#6 Take regular breaks between sets

Taking regular breaks is vital to avoid injuries and to be ready for the next set. Start slow and work yourself up, by not being too hard on your body. Be realistic with your fitness level and don’t burn yourself out.

#7 Setbacks is the name of the game

Patience is key and remember that not all workouts will go smoothly, you will have setbacks, but keep going and stay persistent.

#8 Staying active is part of self-care

Remember that you are doing this for yourself, you owe it to yourself. Changing your mindset will be difficult in the beginning, but regular training can improve it. The benefits will always outweigh the reasons to give up.

#9 Never skip warmups and cooldowns

Avoid injuries by always warming up before a workout and cooling down after a workout.

#10 Master the principles of simple exercises

Start training squats, lunges, burpees, etc. before advancing to more difficult techniques.

#11 Never compare yourself

Never compare yourself or your results with others. You have your own journey to walk, in this case hopefully run!

#12 Results take time

Remember it takes 4 weeks for you to see your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends and family but it takes 12 weeks for the rest of the world. Keep going!

The same voice that says “give up” can also be trained to say “keep going”
