Stay on track while working from home

Working from home offers a variety of benefits including being in control of your schedule, easy access to healthier foods, and keeping on track with a work-life balance. Working from home can also pose a threat to your fitness journey without the necessary tips to successfully stay fit while working remotely, and not all of us are cut-out for a home workout.

Let’s dive into the ultimate ways to stay on track while working from home:

  1. Join online workouts

YouTube has made it easier than ever to stay on track while working from home with online workouts! Instead of taking a normal lunch break, do a short 20-minute yoga workout while taking a break from the computer. A key tip is to leave your yoga mat near your home office which will serve as a constant reminder to start stretching and getting a workout in.

  1. Try different workouts for the first time

You can easily try different workouts from the comfort of your home, eg. trying a free YouTube video on Pilates. This might just be a trick to spark your interest in new fitness classes! Not only can you watch a variety of fitness YouTube videos, but you can select the right video to match your experience level.

  1. Daily stretches

Start your workday by doing stretches. This will keep your joints and muscles healthy especially while sitting the whole day. Not only will it help to increase your flexibility, increase your blood flow to your muscles, and relieve stress but it will also improve your posture and keep your mind calm during the work day.

  1. Try doing daily HIIT workouts in your living room

People who work from home and do regular HIIT workouts see results quicker. HIIT workouts will make you start sweating and get your heartbeat up. It is the perfect type of workout to keep your energy levels high and keep you interested in the workout. You can choose between 15, 20 or 30-minute HIIT workouts on YouTube. What better way to end off the work day than with a HIIT session!

  1. Store your weights in your home office

Every home workout gym needs a pair of basic weights, but if you don’t have weights - fill up empty water bottles with water. Keeping your weights in your office space will ensure that when you have time to exercise, you can fully make use of your opportunity, eg. While you wait for files to download or upload, do a quick arm movement with your weights.

  1. Get your steps in during your lunch break

It is important to effectively make use of your lunch break. The best way to fully utilise your lunch break is to get your steps in. Go for a walk in your garden or your neighbourhood. If you have a treadmill, you can easily get your steps in throughout the day during your short breaks. Motivate yourself by wearing activewear while working from home as it will be a constant reminder to get a workout in for the day.

  1. Jump rope between meetings

Jumping rope gets your heartbeat up, which can be a good distraction in between meetings. It is home gym equipment essential that can easily be packed away in a drawer and is even travel-friendly!

  1. Home chores can be seen as a workout

Just think about all the calories you can burn with activities like washing dishes, hanging up clothes, or sweeping the floors. Although these activities are not nearly the same as a cardio class, it ensures that you move around which helps you stay on track. Think of ways that can increase the intensity of your daily home chores.

Remember that a physical gym is not the only way to get a workout in as working out from home can be just as effective. Home gyms can offer more flexibility and can be more efficient. Use your time and equipment effectively to stay on track while working out from home!
